Art from Schitt’s Creek

2026.01.31

My wife, Kerri, was rewatching some episodes of Schitt’s Creek (RIP Catherine O’Hara) when something caught her eye in this scene from season 1.

See that dusty orange picture beside the window of the Motel?

After a bit of research we learned that this particular style of embroidery is called Crewelwork, and it was sold in the ‘70s as a kit, so it’s not like it’s a one of a kind. HOWEVER! Any pieces that still exist were embroidered by hand, so they are all a bit unique. The one on the wall in Schitt’s Creek appears to have a small dip in the curve on the bottom of the flower vase JUST LIKE OURS!

The embroidery is no longer a part of the set by season 2, and we found this on the curb in front of a framing store in Parkdale around 2017–18. Is it possible that a discarded vintage embroidery made it from the set of Schitt’s Creek to our wall?
